# Announcing Purple Yolk, a dumb Haskell extension for VS Code

I started working on a Haskell extension for VS Code nearly four years ago. I’ve been using it as my primary Haskell development tool since then and it works pretty well (for me). I figured I should get around to actually announcing it:

Does it mean something I’m not aware of? I feel like purple is Haskell’s color and yolk is just an inside joke with some coworkers.

This is really useful for formatting just the LANGUAGE pragmas in a project that doesn’t use a code formatter.

Here’s an example, from bsc’s [Averilog](https://github.com/B-Lang-org/bsc/blob/add2e991f6f9cf6ebbefddfd49a0307369992f2f/src/comp/AVerilog.hs#L1-L3), selecting the language pragmas and then “format selection with Purple Yolk”:

  {-# LANGUAGE CPP #-}
- {-# LANGUAGE FlexibleInstances, TypeSynonymInstances, PatternGuards #-}
- {-# LANGUAGE FlexibleInstances #-}
+ {-# LANGUAGE FlexibleInstances #-}
+ {-# LANGUAGE PatternGuards #-}
+ {-# LANGUAGE TypeSynonymInstances #-}

```

This is literally exactly what I’ve been looking for. Thank you Taylor!

I’m so tired of HLS getting really freaky on some of my projects … especially when there’s FFI involved.
