Hi everyone,
We have received a very nice contribution that enables a cute alternative logo on the [haskell.org](http://haskell.org) landing page. You can access it by passing the `uwu=true` query parameter in the URL: [https://www.haskell.org/?uwu=true](https://www.haskell.org/?uwu=true).

Have a nice week-end.

It seems that once I open [https://www.haskell.org/?uwu=true](https://www.haskell.org/?uwu=true), the choice sticks (in cookies?) and later on even vanilla [https://www.haskell.org/](https://www.haskell.org/) shows the alternative logo. I figured out that [https://www.haskell.org/?uwu=false](https://www.haskell.org/?uwu=false) switches it back. It would be nice to have it written somewhere.

Indeed! I figured it’s a bit difficult to cleanly document that, so we’ve decided to have it not persist. Thanks for the feedback!

Could someone explain the design language of this logo to me? It seems to incorporate some sort of Japanese (?) characters, but I lack the cultural background to understand the implied meaning.

The Japanese characters spell ハスケル, which is the Japanese transliteration for Haskell! Source, I speak both languages & follow the (small) JA-speaking Haskell community.

Can confirm.

For anyone wondering why there’s Japanese in the logo: the “joke” is that it makes the logo look like a stereotypical Manga/Anime logo.

I, for what it’s worth, appreciate the addition 😛

For the sake of being pedantic, aren’t you supposed to credit the author of the image you put on the webpage? The [License](https://web.archive.org/web/20240428130824/https://github.com/SAWARATSUKI/ServiceLogos?tab=readme-ov-file#license) section of the repository suggested that.

There’s a note in the console if you pass the parameter, similar to how the alternative is implemented on other webpages. Could be improved though, I agree.

We did get written permission from the author, so license-wise we are OK.

For context, this logo was created by Swaratsuki1004, who has been doing a bunch of logos for various languages/packages/services. You can find logos designed by the same author at
[React](https://react.dev/?uwu=true),
[Hono - Ultrafast web framework for the Edges](https://hono.dev/?kawaii=true),
[Next.js by Vercel - The React Framework](https://nextjs.org/?uwu),
[Bluesky](https://bsky.app/?kawaii=true), and
[Asahi Linux](https://asahilinux.org/?kawaii=true)
and other places. We’re just joining in on the trend to have a little fun 🙂

The linked picture,

 ![image](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex002/uploads/haskell/original/2X/c/ca1a0bb3b53f69f94a177809c06af85b1d8b29fe.png)

in terms of “too much at once”, reminds me of the old Haskell logo:

[![](https://logodix.com/logo/1669550.jpg) ](https://logodix.com/logo/1669550.jpg)

Both the kawaii one linked and the old one remind me of how lucky we got with that logo design contest that produced the purple \>\>= one, it’s startlingly simple and says “Haskell” so well. 👏

In fact I just realized that saw the linked page and I thought “it says Haskell twice 🤔” and realized that the logo is so internalized for me that I read the \>\>= symbol as “Haskell.”

Do you read this as “Haskell Haskell” as well? 🤔

 ![IMG_9875](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex002/uploads/haskell/original/2X/b/b11aa147de91a46522896b51e0d51ba0d2a33bed.jpeg)

But I digress. This style is supposed to be noisy, it’s part of the “vibe”. I wouldn’t suggest this as the official logo, but I think it’s a fun Easter egg.

Reminds me that GHC once used to have a dino as its mascot, which I was only able to find with the wayback machine, e.g. [https://web.archive.org/web/20031203222338/http://www.haskell.org/ghc/](https://web.archive.org/web/20031203222338/http://www.haskell.org/ghc/) And I only ever heard about this due to Wouter’s PC talk at Haskell '14.

Let’s (not) forget the narwhal logo, too
