The Haskell Foundation is making an effort to communicate more often. It’s time to resurrect the monthly updates. [Please take a look at what the Haskell Foundation was up to during the month of October 2026.](https://haskell.foundation/news/2026-11-02/haskell-foundation-update-october-2026.html)

Is this an appropriate place for me to voice the opinion that this is a bad thing?

Don’t mean to be inflammatory, but the last few announcements are painting this as a pretty hostile community, I’m not sure I want to continue engaging with…

If the new direction is to keep platforming racists and the like, that is really not a good place for me to be in.

How so? If this is in reference to Travis’ posts on social media, my impression is that the HF has disavowed them and vast majority of the community here has condemned them.

Unless you hold the purse-strings at a sponsor, I’m not sure HF wants to continue engaging with …

Then it seems HF taking over [haskell.org](http://haskell.org) is another step in shutting down any sort of community of enthusiasts.

As HF manages the [haskell.org](http://haskell.org) domain now, I would like to ask, who (if not anonymous) runs the [Bluesky account](https://bsky.app/profile/haskell.org)? (and will they continue to, because I think they’re pretty funny)

It’s worth noting that [haskell.org](http://haskell.org) didn’t change hands. [Haskell.Org](http://Haskell.Org), Inc is the Haskell Foundation, and vice versa, as the entities fused. The only thing that changes is which committee is responsible.

The bluesky account remains in the same hands, although I’m not quite sure whose.

It’s also worth noting that even in the past, [Haskell.org](http://Haskell.org) had Haskell Foundation running under the banner of its own 501c3 status until HF got its corporate structure together. It’s good to see the HF handling [Haskell.org](http://Haskell.org). That gives HF a ton of leeway and purpose where before it was kind of awkward having the two be separate. Now if the HF would just find a way to incentivize and help fund (probably only in part, not outright) Haskell meetups in the major cities through affiliate partners 🙂

This is my personal opinion, not the position of the Haskell Foundation or its board.

@hungryjoe, @Elland: I take your feedback, and that of everyone else, seriously.

I agree that Discourse is the right place to voice our opinions. On X itself, my view is more nuanced. I dislike that the board revived the X account, but the board decided this through its regular process and within its bylaws. That is the system working as intended, and I respect the outcome. Adding a channel reaches people who do not read Discourse. In that sense, I see it as inclusive rather than exclusive.

Further, I think the Haskell Foundation more frequently communicating on multiple channels is a great development. Communicating on all these channels is _a lot of work_. We have _seven_ community communication channels (excluding web content such as `haskell.foundation` and `haskell.org`), each of which we have to deal with manually. Board members are unpaid, although many of us have employers who support the time we spend on board matters.

In this sense, I wanted to thank you, @LaurentRDC, for your work as chair of the board. It is difficult, if not impossible, to satisfy all involved parties.

That’s good to hear that there was at least some dissent on the board for engaging with X, @dschrempf. I agree it is the wrong decision. It’s an awful platform engineered to promote and fund extreme, hateful politics, run by a ketamine billionaire (from my UK perspective) actively supporting far-right politicians and activists across Europe. Personally I think this is another sign that the board is too homogenous and lacking in cultural breadth.

It’s good to see pushback here but worth saying that not everyone is in the position to speak up against hate and intolerance. Not everyone can, but those with cultural capital, really should spend it.

It’s disappointing to see a board member pulling a ‘both sides’ argument, and defending someone on the basis that they were pleasant to them in person, despite the awful, very recent X posts being shared.

These issues aren’t straightforward, but I think it’s worth reading up on the “paradox of tolerance”.

> **[Paradox of tolerance](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradox_of_tolerance)**
>
> The paradox of tolerance is a philosophical concept suggesting that if a society extends tolerance to those who are intolerant, it risks enabling the eventual dominance of intolerance, thereby undermining the very principle of tolerance. This paradox was articulated by the Austrian–British philosopher Karl Popper in The Open Society and Its Enemies (1945), where he argued that a truly tolerant society must retain the right to deny tolerance to those who promote intolerance. Popper posited that I...

I would recommend the HF consider a buffer account (relatively cheap!) to allow people to post across all channels at once. It makes a big difference!

Also very excited to see the exactprint work continue. This has been a _long_ road going back around ten years, if i recall, from people first articulating this desire, to where we are now. The recognition that we should go from a desire to implementation was first really put in place in 2021, right around the inception of HF, and there have been multiple proposals and spike efforts and explorations since then. Such a feature will unblock a _lot_ of cool possibilities, and its great to see that it has advanced so far – a testament to how long-term technical leadership and steering is necessary to accomplish certain sorts of changes, and why having institutions such as HF to help develop and articulate such is important.

I guess you mean this: [Buffer (application) - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffer_%28application%29). Interesting, never heard of it, but makes sense that it exists!

The exactprint work would be so cool, for GHC if not Cabal. It’s just been sitting in a mega issue in the repo forever.
