Converge is hiring for a senior software engineer to join the team. We’ve been slowly building up our pool of Haskellers from just me to four of us (out of ten SWEs).
We’re building hardware-enabled SaaS products to make construction (specifically concrete-based construction) more efficient and sustainable. Concrete consists of roughly about 3/4 sand. According to the Leiden University article
, a shortage of construction-quality sand supply is anticipated.
As a potential shareholder, I would like to understand how Converge assesses this risk and what strategic plans it has in place should market conditions necessitate a shift away from concrete toward more abundant construction materials?
Whether one thinks use of concrete in construction really will end any time soon or not (I can’t see it happening), we work with concrete because it’s the most commonly used building material (2nd most used material in the world after water) and the biggest contributor to carbon in the industry (8% of global CO2 emissions). We intend to expand to other building materials at some point, so were concrete to decrease in salience, we would just accelerate that shift.
