Is the Anubis bot checker in gitlab broken?

I’ve been trying to to browser tickets in the GHC gitlab the last few days to see if someone already reported a segfault that I found, but every single click in a link there takes me to the challenge page and I can rarely go further.

Is the GHC team aware that it broken?

Yes, they’re aware. I will be trying to assist them with stabilizing the service.

I myself just had Anubis completely give up on me — the “proof of work” looked on track to last forever.

A hard refresh managed to partially fix the problem. The proof of work still took too long, but I did get through.

Yeah, but I’m not sure they’re aware how hostile and alienating the contribution experience has become.

I believe there is genuinely a lack of urgency, other than putting out fires all the time. Which is clearly not working.

Having a challenge on every single click is a bug in anubis.
I am not aware of this being regularly the case, you’re definitely the exception.
I have seen this from two people and it should definitely be reported upstream; Anubis is currently a necessary evil though.

I also see challenges sometimes not progressing or not even starting at all now. A refresh usually fixes it.

There are 2 techaro.lol-anubis cookies I see, they have a lifetime of ~30minutes so I’d guess after that I will get a challenge again. Maybe your browser blocks the cookies and this is why you get them every time?

@lorenzo I’m willing to help investigate this problem though. Ideally you open an issue upstream at techarohq/anubis describing the exact issue you’re having and provide all the details on the device/ setup you’re using.
When you do, feel free to ping me. (@mangoiv)

Thanks, I’ll try to open a ticket there this evening
