Bellroy’s github-actions library is looking for a new home, and I’d like to hand it to someone who will use it.
It provides types and instances for serialising and deserialising GitHub Actions workflow YAML, so you can build and maintain your workflows in Haskell instead of hand-editing YAML and finding out it’s wrong when CI goes red. It’s a small, focused library. It’s at 0.1.1.0, tested with GHC 9.6 to 9.12, and BSD-3 licensed. The source is at bellroy/github-actions.
Why I’m handing it over
We no longer generate our Github Actions workflows from Haskell - the person who is the main maintainer in our team has decided to go in another direction. Hackage says 32 downloads in total, 4 of them in the last 30 days, so I suspect the user base is small and I’d like to find out who is in it. A library that isn’t maintained by someone who uses it is paying a tax for no good reason, and I’d rather it went to a person who cares about it than sat here slowly rotting.
What you’d be taking on
- The GitHub repository. I’ll transfer it, or you can fork it, whichever you prefer.
- Hackage maintainership. I’ll add you as a maintainer and then remove Bellroy’s address as the contact.
- Keeping the types in step with GitHub’s workflow syntax, if ever it changes.
- Resolving reported bugs, of which there have been 1 in its year of existing.
I’m not expecting a commitment to a release cadence. Someone who fixes things when they break for them is exactly the right kind of maintainer.
What I’d like from you
If you’re interested, reply here or email haskell@bellroy.com with a line or two about how you’d use it. If more than one person puts a hand up, I’ll lean towards whoever is already using the library in anger (correct me if I’m wrong that there are any such people).
If nobody wants it, I’ll mark it deprecated on Hackage and archive the repo, so nobody is left guessing.
