[Well-Typed Blog] Haskell ecosystem activities report: September–November 2025

Just an observation. It seems to be a GHC ecosystem report. I see nothing that is not related to GHC. This is only a complaint about the name, not the contents. Lots of excellent work being done.

The name cements the impression that Haskell=GHC.

Great work as always. I am most excited to try out the new debugger, which has long been a weak point in the Haskell ecosystem.

Naming is of course one of the two hard problems in computer science…

We renamed the report because the scope is wider than GHC-the-project, e.g. it includes Cabal and HLS, which are independent projects, even if they are currently more tightly coupled to GHC than would be ideal. The report is intended to cover all the work Well-Typed are doing across Haskell tooling, so if at some stage we have some MicroHs contributions to report, we’ll gladly include them! On the other hand there are many great things going on within GHC/Cabal/HLS/etc. that don’t get included in our report because they are the work of other contributors.

One contribution that seems potentially relevant for MicroHs is the recent work we’ve been doing towards decoupling base from GHC.

I’m looking forward to this new base that will not import a single module that starts with GHC..
