New horizons for SPJ

After 23 years at Microsoft Research it is time for me to move on. I shall be leaving MSR at the end of November. I am hugely grateful to Microsoft for supporting my research for over two decades – it’s been a great place to work.

I do not yet know exactly what comes next. I’m sure I will continue my work with Haskell and GHC, and in computing education, but I’m also looking for new horizons. I’m sure it’ll be exciting.

I’ll keep you posted. Onward and upward!

Dear Dr Peyton-Jones,

I am a newbie but I hope your transition will be as joyful as my discovery of Haskell!

Thank you
Felix Lechner

Does this mean us ordinary peons can use Comic Sans on our slides?

Thank you for all your efforts and constant good cheer.

Dear SPJ,

Thanks for your work. Best wishes.

Congratulations on this new phase of your life Simon!

I hear that often people feel uncomfortable with not knowing how to fill their time after leaving a position…never fear, we have several rooms to paint, weeds to pull… you are always welcome here with us Simon.

I wish you all the best in the future projects. I’m very happy that You will still contribute to Haskell language.

Wow, the end of an era! I bet I’m not the only one curious to see what he does in the future. Best wishes, and glad to see he intends to stick around GHC.
